Paolo Borrelli (Gorizia, 1959) si trasferisce in Molise giovanissimo, vive a Campobasso.
Alla fine degli anni Settanta frequenta la facoltà di Lettere e Filosofia a Napoli ma l'abbandona ben presto per dedicarsi esclusivamente all'arte.
Nel suo lavoro ha spaziato dalla pittura alla scultura, dalla fotografia al video e all'installazione. Si è occupato di arte urbana, suoi lavori sono esposti in modo permanente in contesti urbani, palazzi pubblici e privati.
Nel 1994 fonda l'Associazione Culturale Limiti inchiusi insieme a Dante Gentile Lorusso, inaugurando il suo lungo percorso di operatore culturale che lo ha portato a progettare eventi come 'Fuoriluogo', 'Vis à Vis Fuoriluogo - Artists in Residence Project' e 'Vis à Vis Flâneur'. Nel 2021 è nel Comitato esecutivo di STARE (Associazione italiana delle Residenze d'artista), fondata da dieci residenze artistiche nazionali.
Nel 1994 è invitato alla mostra itinerante 'You get what you see' curata da Patrizia Ferri e Alessandro Masi, Campobasso (Palazzo Falcione), Spoleto (Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Palazzo Ràcani Arroni) e Roma (Galleria dè Serpenti).
Nel 1995 è stato invitato da Antonio Presti a prendere parte alla mostra 'La città ideale – Artisti italiani e africani' presso la chiesa di San Nicola a Pettineo (Me) curata da Patrizia Ferri, Alessandro Masi e Mary Angela Schroth e alla manifestazione Fiumara d’Arte nella sezione 'Un chilometro di tela', una sua opera è oggi presente nel Museo Domestico del Comune di Pettineo.
Nel 1996 ha pubblicato per le Edizioni Joyce & Co. di Roma il volume 'Gli spifferi del sentire – Quattro artisti nel disincanto', nello stesso anno è tra i vincitori (con il progetto 'Villanuova') del concorso internazionale 'Arte Urbana' indetto dal Comune di Campobasso.
Nel 2003 pubblica per le Edizioni Limiti inchiusi il volume 'Underground – avvistamenti fuoriluogo'; nel novembre dello stesso anno è invitato alla 'XIV Quadriennale d'Arte di Roma', nella quale ha presentato il dittico di grandi dimensioni 'Terre in moto (Testimonianza)'. Sempre nel 2003, poi nel 2005 e ancora nel 2014 è invitato al 48°, 50° e 59° 'Premio Termoli', curati rispettivamente da Leo Strozzieri in “Le vie moderne”, Antonello Rubini in 'Le due rive - Artisti italiani e croati' e Achille Pace in '59+1'. Una sua opera è presente nella collezione della Galleria Civica d’Arte Contemporanea di Termoli.
Nel 2005, invitato da Luca Beatrice, Fabio Cavallucci e Maurizio Sciaccaluga, espone nella mostra 'Is Art' presso il MACI (Museo d'Arte Contemporanea di Isernia), una sua opera è oggi presente presso la collezione permanente del MACI.
Ha preso parte a diverse edizioni della mostra Fuoriluogo (1996, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2003), l'ultima nel 2006 'Fuoriluogo 11 – Duecentoanni (Molise 1806-2006)', allestita nella Galleria Limiti inchiusi di Campobasso realizzata in occasione delle celebrazioni per il bicentenario della Provincia di Campobasso.
Nel 2009 è invitato da Massimo Bignardi alla mostra 'Persistenze sul confine dell'immagine - Omaggio ad Andrea Pazienza', presso il MAT (Museo dell'Alto Tavoliere) di San Severo (FG).
Nel 2010 prende parte alla mostra 'Viagem' curata da Silvia Valente presso il Museo Històrico Municipal Francisco de Paula Lima, Itatiba (San Paolo) in Brasile. Nel settembre dello stesso anno è presente nella mostra 'Bambolè' sempre presso il Museo Històrico Municipal Francisco de Paula Lima, Itatiba (San Paolo).
Nel 2011 è tra gli artisti che rappresentano il Molise nella mostra 'Regioni e Testimonianze d'Italia - 1861 - 2011 / L'unità dell'Arte Italiana nella Diversità delle Regioni', espone nel Complesso Monumentale del Vittoriano a Roma; nello stesso anno è invitato alla '54. Biennale di Venezia - Padiglione Italia - Molise' presso il MACI - Officina della Cultura di Isernia; sempre nel 2011 è presente nella mostra collettiva 'Ma fin est mon commencement' curata da Lorenzo Canova, allestita presso l'ARATRO - Archivio delle arti elettroniche Laboratorio per l'arte contemporanea, Università degli Studi del Molise di Campobasso. Ancora all'ARATRO - Università degli Studi del Molise, nel 2014, inaugura la personale dal titolo 'Egemonia della lotta' a cura di Lorenzo Canova e Pernicola Maria Di Iorio. Nel 2015 è invitato a prendere parte alla mostra 'Occidente' a cura di Silvia Valente nel Museo Sannitico di Campobasso. E' del 2016 la sua personale "Dreamers" presso la SALA 1, il Centro Internazionale d'Arte Contemporanea di Porta San Giovanni, ubicato all'interno del Complesso monumentale della Scala Santa a Roma con la cura di Silvia Valente. Nel dicembre 2017 è invitato da Alberto D'Ambruoso al progetto di residenza per artisti BoCs Art a Cosenza, una sua opera è oggi parte della collezione del BocsArt Museum situato nel Complesso Monumentale San Domenico di Cosenza. Nel 2019, insieme a Fausto Colavecchia, ha realizzato l'opera luminosa al neon "Ci rivedremo a Filippi" per il Comune di Lucito, nell'ambito del progetto di residenza Vis à Vis Fuoriluogo 22 curato da Matteo Innocenti.
Nel 2021 e nel 2022 è ivitato a 'About the Future' (Festiva di videoarte) presso la Fondazione Molise Cultura (2021) e 'About The Future' (Film & Digital Art), Banca Mediolanum, Campobasso (2022) a cura di Tommaso Evangelista e alla mostra itinerante 'Io e Me - Autoritratti nel Lockdown', Museo della città e del territorio di Vetralla (VT) - alla Biblioteca Europea, Roma e alla Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale di Roma - (progetto Sala 1 a cura di Mary Angela Schroth e Cosetta Mastragostino);
Nel 1995 è il vincitore del bando di concorso indetto dal Ministero delle Infrastrutture e dei Trasporti per la realizzazione di opere d’arte da collocare nella nuova sede dei Vigili del Fuoco di Isernia, dove oggi sono presenti due suoi lavori.
Nel 2005 realizza per l’Impresa Mascia l’istallazione permanente ‘La Testa’, allestita presso il Palazzo Mascia a Campobasso.
Nel 2008, per la città di Campobasso, in qualità di vincitore del concorso internazionale d'Arte Urbana, realizza la scultura ‘Vuoto immanente – Moneta unica’, collocata nel Parco San Giovanni a Campobasso.
Nel 2010, chiamato a realizzare un'opera per il MAACK - Museo all’Aperto d'Arte Contemporanea Kalenarte, installa la scultura “Il Museo Sospeso – L’arresto/L’eccitante' alla base della Torre dell’Orologio di Casacalenda.
Ha curato l'edizione 2004 della mostra nazionale 'Gemine Muse - Giovani Artisti Italiani' presso il Museo Provinciale Sannitico di Campobasso;
Dal 2012 cura, con Fausto Colavecchia, il progetto 'Vis à Vis - Artists in Residence Project', organizzato e realizzato nei comuni di Acquaviva Collecroce (CB), Carpineto Sinello (CH), Guilmi (CH) e Montemitro (CB). Progetto vincitore del bando nazionale "Creatività Giovanile" indetto dalla Presidenza del Consiglio dei Ministri - Ministero della Gioventù e dall'ANCI. Ente attuatore l'Unione dei Comuni del Sinello. Il progetto "Vis à Vis Fuoriluogo", ad oggi, è giunto alla decima edizione diffondendosi in vari comuni del Molise. Nel 2006, con Fausto Colavecchia, cura la direzione del progetto di residenze per artisti "Vis à Vis Flâneur" presso la Fondazione Molise Cultura di Campobasso.
Ha curato rubriche per quotidiani e mensili, scritto testi per cataloghi e riviste d’arte. Nel 1999 è tra i fondatori della rivista ‘Il Bene Comune”, per la quale realizza anche il progetto grafico e, fino al 2011 è componente del collettivo redazionale. Dal 2003 al 2007 ha curato una propria rubrica per la rivista Altromolise Magazine. Dal 2001 al 2002 ha curato una propria rubrica sul quotidiano Nuovo Oggi Molise.
Paolo Borrelli (Gorizia, 1959) moved to Molise at a very young age, he lives in Campobasso.
At the end of the Seventies he attended the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy in Naples but soon abandoned it to devote himself exclusively to art.

In 1994 he founded the Cultural Association Limiti inchiusi, inaugurating his long journey as a cultural operator that led him to design events such as 'Fuoriluogo', 'Vis à Vis Fuoriluogo - Artists in Residence Project' and 'Vis à Vis Flâneur'. In 2021 he is on the Executive Committee of STARE (Italian Association of Artist Residences), founded by ten national artistic residences.
In 1994 he was invited to the traveling exhibition 'You get what you see' curated by Patrizia Ferri and Alessandro Masi, Campobasso (Palazzo Falcione), Spoleto (Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art of Palazzo Ràcani Arroni) and Rome (Galleria dè Serpenti).
In 1995 he was invited by Antonio Presti to take part in the exhibition 'The ideal city - Italian and African artists' at the church of San Nicola in Pettineo (Me) curated by Patrizia Ferri, Alessandro Masi and Mary Angela Schroth and at the event Fiumara d 'Art in the section' One kilometer of canvas', one of his works is now present in the Domestic Museum of the Municipality of Pettineo.
In 1996 he published for Edizioni Joyce & Co. of Rome the volume 'The drafts of feeling - Four artists in disenchantment', in the same year he was among the winners (with the project 'Villanuova') of the international competition 'Arte Urbana' announced from the Municipality of Campobasso.
In 2003 he published the book 'Underground - off-site sightings' for the Limiti Editions; in November of the same year he was invited to the 'XIV Quadriennale d'Arte di Roma', in which he presented the large diptych 'Terre in moto (Testimony)'. Also in 2003, then in 2005 and again in 2014 he was invited to the 48th, 50th and 59th 'Termoli Prize', curated respectively by Leo Strozzieri in "Le vie moderne", Antonello Rubini in "Le due rive - Artisti italiani and Croats 'and Achille Pace in '59 +1'. One of his works is present in the collection of the Termoli Civic Gallery of Contemporary Art.

In 2009 he was invited by Massimo Bignardi to the exhibition 'Persistence on the border of the image - Homage to Andrea Pazienza', at the MAT (Museo dell'Alto Tavoliere) in San Severo (FG).
In 2010 he took part in the 'Viagem' exhibition curated by Silvia Valente at the Municipal Pe Museum. Francisco de Paula Lima, Itatiba (São Paulo) in Brazil. In September of the same year he is present in the exhibition 'Bambolè' always at the Municipal Històrico Museum Pe. Francisco de Paula Lima, Itatiba (Sao Paulo).
In 2011 he represented Molise in the exhibition 'Regions and Testimonies of Italy - 1861 - 2011 / The Unity of Italian Art in the Diversity of the Regions', exhibited in the Monumental Complex of the Vittoriano in Rome; in the same year he was invited to the '54. In 2015 he was invited to take part in the 'Occidente' exhibition curated by Silvia Valente in the Samnite Museum of Campobasso. His personal "Dreamers" is in 2016 at SALA 1, the International Center for Contemporary Art of Porta San Giovanni, located inside the Scala Santa monumental complex in Rome with the care of Silvia Valente. In December 2017 he is invited by Alberto D'Ambruoso to the residence project for artists BoCs Art in Cosenza, one of his works is now part of the BocsArt Museum collection located in the San Domenico Monumental Complex in Cosenza. In 2019, together with Fausto Colavecchia, he created the neon light work "We will meet again in Filippi" for the Municipality of Lucito, as part of the Vis à Vis Fuoriluogo 22 residence project curated by Matteo Innocenti.
In 2012 he was one of the creators of the 'Vis a Vis - Artists in Residence Project' project, organized and implemented in the municipalities of Acquaviva Collecroce (CB), Carpineto Sinello (CH), Guilmi (CH) and Montemitro (CB). Winning project of the national tender announced by the Prime Minister - Ministry of Youth and ANCI. Implementing body of the Union of Municipalities of Sinello. The "Vis à Vis Fuoriluogo" project, to date, has reached its ninth edition, spreading in various municipalities of Molise. In 2006, with Fausto Colavecchia, he realized the project of residences for artists "Vis à Vis Flâneur" at the Molise Culture Foundation of Campobasso.
In 1995 he was the winner of the competition notice launched by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport for the creation of works of art to be placed in the new headquarters of the Isernia Fire Brigade, where two of his works are present today.
In 2005 he created the permanent installation 'La Testa' for the Mascia Company, set up at the Palazzo Mascia in Campobasso.
In 2008, for the city of Campobasso, as the winner of the international urban art competition, he created the sculpture 'Immanent emptiness - single currency', located in the San Giovanni park in Campobasso.
In 2010, called to create a work for the MAACK - Open Air Museum of Contemporary Art Kalenarte, he installed the sculpture "The Suspended Museum - The arrest / The exciting" at the base of the Clock Tower of Casacalenda.
He curated the 2004 edition of the national exhibition 'Gemine Muse - Young Italian Artists' at the Provincial Samnite Museum of Campobasso;
He has edited columns for newspapers and monthly magazines, written texts for catalogs and art magazines. In 1999 he was one of the founders of the magazine "Il Bene Comune", for which he also created the graphic project and, until 2011, was a member of the editorial collective. From 2003 to 2007 he edited his own column for Altromolise Magazine. From 2001 to 2002 he edited his own column in the newspaper Nuovo Oggi Molise.
